One of the many irritating aspects of traveling the big cities is traffic. Some places, like Dallas and Houston for instance, have these incredible moments of dense traffic twice a day. Once as people go to work, again as they go home. Smaller places like OKC and Tulsa also have rush hours but on a smaller scale. What about Lawton? Do we have a rush hour too?

My personal work schedule never has me out of the house before about 9 AM so I can't really speak to the morning rush... but sometimes, that drive home can get curiously slow and full of vehicles meandering down Cache Road at a brisk jog, usually around 35MPH in the 5 o'clock hour.

I think it's fair to say Lawton has a rush hour, but at our own size and pace. So where does all the traffic come from? Look at the big employers in town.

One would assume Fort Sill experiences their daily mass-exodus around the same time each day, but if they're early to work then they have to be early to leave right?

In my hometown of 30,000-ish people, there's a pretty big oil refinery. Between the hours of 5 AM and 7 AM, it's nearly impossible to travel the four roads that surround it. Thousands of workers trying to get through one of six gates to enter their workplace. Since they start so early, things are the same when they all leave between 3 PM and 5 PM. Add in the equal flow in and out as shifts change, half leave, half are just arriving, it's fair to state there is a "rush hour" in that small town. Does that also apply to Lawton?

I know during shift change, the traffic down Lee Boulevard, Goodyear Boulevard, and Cache Road can get pretty epic out on the Westside... but it's really just the locals that have to endure the daily traffic ritual right? Cache Road is where I think most people notice an abnormal amount of traffic... but if Fort Sill lets out well before 5 PM, what's with all the traffic between 5 PM and 7 PM?

Maybe it's the dinner rush... people just trying to get out there and have a restaurant meal or a beer before headed home for the night. I know it's like that in Altus on a payday weekend. Tons of traffic and a line of people waiting to sit down at pretty much every restaurant in town. Texas Roadhouse is curiously packed every night when I drive by it. So are Los Tres, Chili's, Applebee's, Kimono, Qdoba, Panda Express, etc... Could it be people are just going out to eat when us normies are calling it a day?

Either/or, regardless of the reason, do you think it's fair to say that Lawton has a "rush hour" and do you agree it should be legal to throw broken spark plugs at people doing 35MPH in the 45MPH sections of Cache Road?
