Drunk Driver Caught Driving Wrong Way On Oklahoma Highway
Earlier this year in November, Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers received a report of a driver dangerously driving the wrong way on Creek Turnpike near Broken Arrow. Despite a portion of the turnpike being closed off and marked clearly, the driver treated the area as though it was just a normal two-way street.
Dash cam footage reveals the reality of how drunk drivers react on the roads, even with the unmistakable lights and sirens planted right in front of them. Thanks to one of the newest laws enacted on November 1, the driver was charged with a felony and other crimes for the incident.

When OHP Trooper Cody Beaver spotted the driver traveling the wrong direction on Creek Turnpike, he couldn't have known that they were drunk right off of the bat. Maybe they just miunderstood road markings in the dead of night?
But, there were signs. And they were completely visible captured on the Trooper's dash cam footage of the incident.

Firstly, when he turned on his lights and sirens, and pulled in front of the vehicle, the driver never appeared to hit their brakes and drove straight into the patrol vehicle and came to a stop. Secondly, he was able to determine that the driver was under the influence after several sobriety tests he conducted there on location.
How did the new Oklahoma law influence the charges for wrong-way driver?
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the driver was charged with:
- Aggravated Driving Under The Influence
- Improper Driving On A Divided Highway
- Fail To Carry Insurance Form
The new law that was put in place on November 1, 2025, applied harsher charges to reckless behviors like Driving Under The Influence (DUI). A statement from the Oklahoma Senate explains the changes:
"The new law strengthens Oklahoma’s efforts to protect motorists and families by including additional offenses such as causing a motor vehicle incident, eluding police, speeding in a school zone, having a minor in the vehicle, or committing other reckless acts while driving under the influence under the definition of Aggravated DUI, a felony offense."
Some people believe they aren't dangerous drivers, even if they've have a few beers or alcoholic beverages. But, just watch at the reaction time of this driver and how oblivious they are to the Trooper pulling them over. Thankfully, things didn't end with tragedy, but drinking and driving should be taken more seriously, especially with more on the line.
