Elgin Has Been Named as the Safest City in Oklahoma Again!

Congratulations to Elgin, OK. for being named Oklahoma's safest City in 2021. This makes the third time in a row that Elgin, OK. has been declared as the safest city in the state, that's quite an accomplishment. The new study from www.safewise.com lists the 20 safest city's in Oklahoma and Elgin once again is at the very top of the list! The study looks at crime statistics and other details to rank the cities and towns across the state.

Oklahoma currently has the fourteenth highest violent crime rate and the sixth highest property crime rate in the Nation according to the study. The overall numbers show the violent crime rate as 4.3 per 1,000 and the property crime rate as 28.5 per 1,000. Not very good numbers or results, however things are improving some for the Sooner State and we saw a slight decline in the crime rates last year in 2020. Of course the COVID-19 pandemic had a lot to do with that. There are places in Oklahoma that have far lower crime rates that are not only the lowest in the state but far below the National average as well. Elgin, OK. is one such place.

In Elgin the violent crime rate for last year or the most recent study was 0.0, that's right 0.0 and the property crime rate was 2.8 per 1,000 making Elgin one of, if not the, safest cities in all of Oklahoma. Elgin is a great place, I go there quite often. Most recently for their annual Crawds N' Rods car show and crawfish boil. I'm also looking forward to the opening of the new Elgin Square shopping center. An all new retail strip that will house around 10 store fronts that include: Viridian Coffee, Hillary Communications, Cali Burrito and Elgin Laundry. More businesses are leasing space and will be announced soon. Can't wait to seeing what else will be there. Elgin is also home to one of my all time favorite pizza places Pizza Coral.
