Happy National Farmers Market Week! This is a great time for all of Lawton/Ft. Sill to show our local family farmers that we are committed to supporting their efforts in providing our community with fresh fruits, vegetables and other delicious and useful seasonal commodities.

11 YEARS AND COUNTING

In 2019, the Lawton Farmers Market will have been in existence for over 11 years! Vendors at the Lawton Farmers Market are passionate about what they do. It is not only their livelihood, it is their way of life. Let’s all be committed to making the 11th year of this special event healthy, supportive and profitable for all involved.

STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY

I spend so much money on food! And, not even good food. I’m always going through some random drive-through looking for something quick, fatty and more than likely, super unhealthy. That would explain my not-so-sudden weight gain and feelings of sluggishness.

If I’m gonna buy food every couple of days, I might as well give my money to support local farmers who are in exchange supplying me with fresh foods that I actually know what it is and where it came from.

REASONS TO SUPPORT THE LAWTON FARMERS MARKET

According to The Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA), there are several reason why we as a community should shop our local farmer’s market. Just a few of those reasons on the list are to: support family farmers, know where your food comes from, to protect the environment, to promote the humane treatment of animals, to nourish yourself and to connect with your community.

The cultural significance of the Lawton Farmers Market is huge. It is an essential component in the revitalization of our local food economy it helps makes farming financially lucrative and it encourages a new generation to choose farming as a source of revenue and means of support.
