Apparently, today is National Flip Flop Day in America, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe is celebrating the kickoff of summer with free smoothies.

From 2 PM through 7 PM today, May 31st, 2023, everyone is entitled to a free strawberry margarita at participating Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations, but there is a catch.

You have to wear your flip flops into the store to get your free smoothie. That's the rule.

Lawton has two Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations--One on Sheridan Road by Walmart, the other out on 82nd Street in front of Academy.

I called both stores to see if they're participating in the promotion, the Sheridan Road Tropical Smoothie location is for sure... the 82nd Street location never picked up the phone.

It is important to note that you absolutely have to wear your flip flops in store to get the free smoothie. The exuberant dude that answered the phone at the Sheridan Road location said this twice during our short call.

Does that include slides?

Who wears flip flops anymore, right? Do they have to be flops? It's a valid question that people are posting on social media, and while there's no definitive answer, one would assume that flip flops are uniquely different than slides.

While flip flops and slides are all sandals, not all sandals are flip flops and slides.

What if I don't have flip flops?

Bummer, you'll miss out on a free smoothie... unless you were willing to go buy a pair of flip flops just to get a free smoothie, but that seems a little ironic.

All the same, you get a new pair of flops and a free smoothie on top.

Welcome to summer. Let's hope it isn't as bad as it was last year.
