Deep Purple Co-Founder Jon Lord Dead at 71

Jon Lord, who had been battling Pancreatic Cancer, died today due to a Pulmonary Embolism according to a statement released on his website. Jon, born in London, co-founded the legendary rock band Deep Purple with drummer Ian Pace. The duo crafted many of band's hits such along with their most widely known hit "Smoke On The Water". Jon made the announcement to his fans that he would be taking some time off to continue his fight with cancer but assured them that he would still be creating music. The statement on Jon's website continued by saying that "Jon has passed from Darkness into Light" and "was surrounded by the love of his family".
