Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira Will Return to ‘Today’ as Temporary Co-Hosts
Today will take a trip into yesteryear during a string of January 2017 episodes: Former co-hosts Katie Couric and Meredith Vieira are slated to return!
Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb announced on this morning's (December 22) episode that Couric and Vieira will help fill in for Savannah Guthrie — who's scheduled for maternity leave in early 2017 — on the Today panel. Couric, who originally worked on the show from 1989 to 2006, will fill in for the week starting January 2 while Vieira, who worked on Today from 2006 to 2011, is scheduled to return the week of January 9.
And Lauer, who's shared the news desk with both, said he's thrilled for the chance to reconnect with his former co-workers.
"It's gonna be fun," he said. "It's gonna be a real walk down memory lane...We've got a lot to look forward to at the start of 2017."
Couric seems equally eager for her return to her former post. "Talk about old home week! Looking forward to getting together with the gang and celebrating @MLauer's 20th anniversary on @TODAYshow!," she tweeted.
Couric has previously returned to the show as a guest.
Guthrie gave birth to Charles Max Feldman on December 9, according to Today. The baby's named after Guthrie's late father and the grandfather of Guthrie's husband Mike Feldman.
