They say that good things come in threes, but in November, great things are coming to Lawton, Oklahoma as a pair. One of the more popular art galleries, the Leslie Powell Art Gallery, plans on showcasing some of the best artwork from students and an aviation illustrator from little ol' Oklahoma.

Tour De Quartz Exhibit From Quartz Mountain Students

This past summer here in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) at Quartz Mountain pulled out some very big stops for their students. To help hone in their painting and photography skills, the school brought experienced artists: painter Daphne Arthur from New York, New York and photographers Janelle Lynch from New York, New York, Ben Long from San Francisco, California, and Kellyann Petry from Brooklyn, New York.

Students spent a 2-week residential stay learning from the best in their field and preparing their work for this showcase. Keep in mind, these students are high school kids from all across Oklahoma and attending these art classes thanks to scholarships.

Shades and Shapes Exhibit From Duncan, Oklahoma Artist

At the same time as the student exhibits, artwork from Duncan, Oklahoma artist Timothy Jacob, will be out for everyone to enjoy as well. His work, now a little less formal than when he worked as a technical illustrator in the aviation industry, has been shown at the Firehouse Gallery, ChiArt Studio & Gallery, and Botanical Gallery in the Gardens. His work actually earned him the Patron Award at the Botanical.

In a press release, Jacobs explained that his work comes as a surprise even to himself. "I never know what my art will look like. The only thing I know is the color of the pencil I start with,” he said. “I have one desire as an artist – that is to draw what I see in my own way.”

Exhibits Opening Reception and Display Dates

The exhibits will be open with a free reception on Saturday, November 9, 2024, doors opening at 6:00p.m. Viewers are encouraged to come enjoy light refreshments and get the first views of this incredible artwork from our very own people.
