Lawton city Mayor Stan Booker and Ward Four City Councilman and Mayor Pro-tem Jay Burk could be facing a recall. A local group called the Freedom Defense Alliance is organizing and collecting signatures on a petition to begin the recall process for both the Mayor and the Councilman.

They'll need at least a 100 signatures in order to file with the City Clerk's office along with a statement that outlines the cause for the recall. At that time a counter statement can be filed by Mayor Stan Booker and City Councilman Jay Burk as to why they oppose the recall. Then both statements would be placed on a petition requiring additional signatures in order to cause a recall election. So how many signatures would it take? For the Mayor we're hearing it could be the number of city wide voter return from the last election and for Councilman Jay Burk the total number of votes in Ward Four from the last election.

Below is the official recall petition that the Freedom Defense Alliance is collecting signatures with. It lists the reasons behind the recall, most are centered around the COVID-19 pandemic and the ordinances and mandates that the City of Lawton has issued over the past several months.
