It's one of the most iconic restaurants and burgers in the state, if not the Nation. Meers Store and Restaurant in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is a great place to eat and home to the world-famous Meers Burger.

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to visit Meers so I'm thinking this weekend the family and I will head out to the mountains to do some site seeing, hiking, and grab a late lunch or early dinner. If you've never been you're missing out their burgers are legendary, not to mention ABSOLUTELY HUGE!

If you've lived in Lawton, Fort Sill for any amount of time you've heard of these monstrous Meers Burgers. It still surprises me how many people who've been in town for years, some born and raised here and haven't been to Meers before. The place is amazing and with it being out at the Wichita Mountains you can make a day of it. People come from all over the world to eat at Meers, the burger is that good.

So what makes the Meers Burger the best? It's 16 ounces, that's right a full pound of meat. But not just any old meat, it's grass feed Longhorn which is much leaner and tastier. The burger is the size of the plate they serve it on and cut into quarters for easier eating. They're big enough to split and share which is what most people do. One burger could feed two, maybe three people. Or in my case just me when I'm hungry.

I use to work there when I was a kid and believe it or not I would usually eat 2 of them a day if I was working. I'd have one for lunch, then dinner. Pro tip: If they still have the Wisconsin Cheese Soup it pairs perfectly with a Meers Cheeseburger. Order both then dump the cheese soup over the top of the burger and eat it with a fork, it's life-changing! They also have homemade peach cobbler and ice cream if you have room for dessert.

If you ever have the chance to go, go. You won't regret it. Meers has been named the best burger in Oklahoma time and again. Both officially and unofficially. We're lucky to live so close by so whenever the craving hits we can head to Meers anytime we want. When it comes to burgers Lawton, Fort Sill has some really tough competition. You'd be hard-pressed to find another city with so many amazing burger joints.

If you're a burger connoisseur yourself Lawton, Fort Sill has a lot to offer. If you haven't already tried them out stop by Burgess Grill in downtown Lawton. There's McKenzie's Old Fashion Burger Garage on 2nd Street. Wayne's Drive-In is an absolute must. They have 2 locations one on Sheridan Road and N.W. Cache Road.

Another great burger in town is Backporch Drafthouse, they also have 2 locations. One on W. Gore and on N.W. Cache Road. There's the Boom-a-rang Diner on C Ave downtown. I have to mention S&B Burger Joint on N.W. Cache Road they're great. Mike's Sports Grille on E. Gore has an amazing burger.

The Silver Spoon on C Ave in downtown Lawton has incredible burgers and new to town JD's Hideaway on Sheridan Road has an awesome burger as well. It's hard to pick a favorite when you have so many notable burger places to choose from. All could easily be called "best." And these are just a few of them...
