What Do Oklahomans Fear Most? A New Study Reveals…
Tis' the season of scary in Oklahoma and all across the country. But, we're talking about more fears than just creepy, crawly spiders or flashing lights and loud sounds in every haunted house. This new study reveals what Oklahomans fear most compared to the rest of the country on a very real level.
Study Finds Oklahomans Fear Heights Above All Else
A new study presented different fears to each member of the survey and asked them not only if it terrifies them, but "how often those worries occupy their thoughts." The options ranged from snakes and enclosed spaces to public speaking and death.
After analyzing their research, the study found that Oklahoma residents, along with people in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland and Washington D.C., were most afraid of heights. They were asked how far they would go to avoid heights and some confessed to "crawling instead of walking" and "driving miles out of the way to avoid bridges."
According to casino.ca, the 3,000 americans they asked were also given a choice of facing that fear in return for $1,000. Most of which admitted that $1,000 wasn't enough to change their minds.

Of all of the things we do for fun around here, notice where it usually happens: close to the ground. Sorry to disappoint the high-flyers out there, but there are only a few options for leaving the ground for fun.

Oklahoma may have plenty of ropes courses and ziplines, but rock climbing is a novelty in this state - superficial or natural. It makes sense that most people are afraid of heights out here; it's because we really don't have them. The highest point in Oklahoma is just shy of 5,000 feet at the Black Mesa State Park.
As for finding natural rock climbing spots, there are a few at Quartz Mountain, the Wichita Mountains (currently closed due to the Rush Fire) and the Tulsa area. A few other notable spots in the state are in the San Bois Mountains at Robbers Cave State Park.
The Bravest Oklahomans Of All Take On Skydiving
There are a few more options for indoor climbing gyms and adventure parks. Most are found in the Oklahoma City or Tulsa area. The highest rock climbing wall is the Stoneyard in Oklahoma City, scaling 90 feet up.
@maiwanderlustlife Part of my solo adventure traveling included a training session at @iFLY (US) to help with my freefalling as a skydiver. I stayed at the @Wyndham Grand hotel in downtown OKC, and it was very close to the enterainment district! The soup had a lot of lemongrass but it was still good. The beer at @Bricktown Brewery was delish. If you love heights, maybe you've thought about giving sky diving a try. The good news: Oklahoma has four places to get a sky diving experience. The bad news is that Oklahoma only has four places in the entire state to go sky diving:
- Oklahoma Skydiving Center - Cushing, Oklahoma
- Skydive Airtight - Skiatook, Oklahoma
- Skydive Cherokee - Muskogee, Oklahoma
- iFLY Indoor Skydiving - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
