Can Adrenaline Junkies Get Their Kicks in Oklahoma? Sure Can!
Don't be fooled by the rolling hills and seemingly endless plains in Oklahoma. There is still some hidden treasures of adventure tucked away in the state, both natural and man-made. If you're a thrill-seeker, here are the best ways to get your fix in Oklahoma.
White Water Rafting
Oklahoma actually has more water than most realize. According to the National Wild and Scenic River System, Oklahoma has "78,603 miles of river, but no designated wild and scenic rivers.
Where there are rivers, there are river activities and not just your kayaking or tubing. White water rafting is, simply put, rafting over fast-moving waters in rivers. Although it sounds easy, imagine the intensity behind avoiding rocks, trees, banks, all while racing down the river either with a group or by yourself.
In our state, those who want to experience white water rafting, but have the training and guidance of professionals, you can head up to Oklahoma City's Boathouse District with a group of your friends to try it in a simulation.
If you're confident enough to take on the real thing, take your gear up to Broken Bow Lake in the south east corner of the state. Or tackle the white waters in WOKA Park in Watts, Oklahoma, near the Arkansas border.
Rock Climbing
Along with a handful of mountains, Oklahomans are welcome to span the miles of trails throughout areas like Turner Falls, Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, Quartz Mountain and many more. Although our mountains aren't as high as some in the country, they ARE still high enough to do some authentic rock climbing and cave exploring.
Bull-Riding and Rodeo
There's no adrenaline rush quite like the one you can get close-up to the action of bull-riding and rodeo events. Most rodeos in Oklahoma include calf-scrambles or muttin-bustin' for the kiddos and even mechanical bulls for a near-similar experience without the risk.
Although we are getting into rodeo season here in Oklahoma, there is year-long bull riding action close-by the dance floor at the Cowboys OKC dance hall. But, if you do want the rush of a rodeo, you'll want to visit your favorite hometowns or attend some of the largest in the state, including in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Anything On Wheels
Okies love getting dirty and going fast - that's why some of our favorite hobbies include mudding, offroading and monster truck wars. The feeling of watching two or three ton vehicles launching themselves mid-air or the rush of insanely quick cars rush by you in the blink of an eye can really get your blood going.
Sky Diving
Oklahoma's skies always make gorgeous photos, they make even better adrenaline-driving experiences when diving. There are options to jump indoors and outdoors throughout the state, the most notable being in Oklahoma City for outdoor jumps and iFly for indoor jumps.
