Time's almost here for the announcement of who won the drawings for this year's controlled hunts in Oklahoma. Hunters who've applied for the next draw should keep an eye out for an email from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC). Though not everyone who applied will receive a winning tag, everyone will know who the winners are on Tuesday, June 10.

Controlled hunts are opportunities for okies to explore and hunt in areas otherwise restricted to the public due to safety hazards and possible overharvesting. The ODWC hosts a number of controlled hunts for deer, turkey, antelope and other animals throughout the year. The number of hunts depends on the animal that hunters apply for.

In order to apply for future controlled hunts, you'll want to bookmark this page here through the ODWC that allows you to view individual categories.

How often can you apply for a controlled hunting license?

There are different requirements for different types of hunts that Oklahomans can apply for. Keep in mind that certain species, like Elk and Antelope, are once-in-a-lifetime hunts. In this case, this means that you can only be selected to hunt these species once and will not be eligible to apply again in the future, according to Licensing Supervisor for the ODWC, Mike Chrisman.

This is true even if you choose not to attend or cannot attend your once-in-a-lifetime hunt, unless you purchased PointGaurd insurance at the time of your application.

As far as applying for other species like mule deer or spring turkey, you can apply each year, even if you've missed your controlled hunt in the past.
