More Ways Oklahoma’s Resilient People Are Coming Together
Once again, Oklahomans around the state are proving that no one who needs help will go without receiving it this weekend. The response to the SNAP benefit crisis has been overwhelming in Oklahoma, specifically.
Between the monetary and physical donations to the Lawton Food Bank, charity drives, and feedings from local organizations, it almost seemed like there was nothing ELSE that could be done.
And yet, more people have drummed up new opportunities to help those in need, and in more ways than just providing food.
Lawton & FISTA hosting resource fair for federal government civilian employees.
If the government shutdown continues, then the city of Lawton will team up with Fires Innovation Science and Technology Accelerator (FISTA) and host a resource fair on Wednesday, November 5, at the FISTA Innovation Park.
Between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors will be able to visit representatives from local banks, non-profit organizations, and community health partners who have the means to help those in need. They will be offering financial guidance, wellness support, and essential services.
Little Bear Street Eats offering free meals when using a special code word.
Another way a local business is helping folks who may be suffering in silence is by offering a free, complimentary cheese or chicken pot pie. If customers want to take advantage, they just have to ask for a SNAP pie.
They will be open on Saturday, November 1, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, November 2, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information about their menu items, locations, and more can visit their Facebook page.
