Oklahoma Rut Report: Deer Hunting Will Be Good Over Thanksgiving

As we embark onward toward the biggest hunting weekend of the year in Oklahoma, the Thanksgiving 'Rut Report' is looking mighty fine to Sooner State sportsmen.

As the weather gets progressively more miserable through Sunday, the drop in temperatures is predicted to get the deer up and moving earlier in the morning and well before sunset in the evenings.

That is the best news Oklahoma hunters could hear right now.

Almost a week into the most popular season--Deer Gun--bucks are starting to get into the spirit of nature. They're moving earlier each day in all corners of the state, and the big mature bruisers should be out and about by the weekend, though wildlife biologists suggest the season is already past its peak down in the Southeastern areas of the state.

That doesn't mean you won't find the trophy and lean protein you've been looking for.

The Wildlife Department is also on a mission at the moment to remind hunters how important harvesting anterless deer are right now. (they don't classify deer as male/female, they either have antlers or don't) As the population is bouncing back in huge numbers, they're encouraging everyone to fill that tag.
