Feel Good: Famous Owasso Cat Injured, Community Comes Together
I'll say it once before and I'll say it again - we love our animals in Oklahoma. In fact, an easy way for a place to become a favorite here is if they have their own mascot. That's why so many love the Cornerstone Ace Hardware in Owasso, Oklahoma.
Simon, The Favorite Employee
Their appointed "head of the welcoming committee," Simon, is usually one of the first to greet the folks that walk through the store. When the regulars noticed that Simon wasn't right at the front door a few weeks ago, they feared something had happened.

Since the same group of people come by every day, it was obvious something was off when Simon, the head of the welcoming committee, wasn't there greeting customers. #Owasso #news #newson6 #kotv #tulsa #cats #workers #Simon ♬ original sound - newson6kotv
General manager, Katie Davidson, mentioned that Simon never leaves the store - literally, ever. "I thought he went home in the middle of the night, but he doesn't. He stays here all the time," said Davidson," she said.
What Happened to Simon?
It turned out Simon had been injured by a prybar that fell and broke one of his front legs. After getting a cast and mandatory rest time, Simon has been living the high life. Visitors who've loved him from the very beginning have been making sure he doesn't go without any affection while recovering.
Simon's Recovery
Simon's news of his injury was also met with a ton of love from the Owasso community on social media.
Comments sending love and best wishes swarmed the comment section, while a few jokes about Simon's workman's comp were snuck in there, too.
More Animals in Cornerstone Ace Hardware
This Cornerstone Ace doesn't just love Simon, the cat, either. They also have a pup, Aspen. When he was younger, he came to the store every day, according to the Hardware Store's social media. Now that he's older, he still does make appearances.
Simon's situation just goes to show that the one way to bring an Oklahoman community together is just to involve an animal - preferably one with fur.
