Incoming Winter Storm May Give Oklahoma Some Snow

Most okies know that we don't start seeing "winter weather" around here until January or February. Just like in it's usual fashion, mother nature has decided to make her first winter appearance here in Oklahoma this weekend. And if we're lucky, it may be just cold enough for some snow.

Incoming Winter Storm Possibly Bringing More Than Cold Temps To Oklahoma

Certain meteorologists have started to anticipate some freezing temperatures rolling in late Saturday, January 4 into Sunday, January 5. Although some areas of the United States may see snow, Oklahoma and Texas are expected to be seeing some low temperatures and possibly some precipitation.

According to weather analyst Max Velocity, he's already predicting the start of an incoming winter storm for this weekend. In his most recent analysis of the developing weather, he predicted seeing "rain and severe weather, which is really going to ramp up more into Sunday," he said. "But that'll be mostly in Oklahoma, Texas and then back through the Dixie Alley."

Oklahoma's own meteorologists don't seem to be predicting as much precipitation, but have already hinted at some chilly temps. According the U.S. National Weather Service in Norman, "A storm system on Sunday (Jan. 5th) looks to introduce cold temperatures across the region."

Could Oklahoma See Snow This Weekend?

According to trusty ol' David Payne, there could be some parts of Oklahoma seeing rain, sleet and eventually snow on Sunday, January 5. According to his most recent update, he mentioned "The snow chances are the highest in our northern counties. For the OKC Metro: the precip will try to end by the time the arctic air arrives. This will keep the metro with mostly rain." For real time updates, you can follow David Payne on News9.

Although there's a good chance that most of Oklahoma won't see much more than just cold from this winter storm, it's important to do your cold weather checklist now while it's still tolerable outside. Don't forget to:

Drain and hang your hoses
Drip the faucet
Check for leaks
Have the generator handy and accessible
Make sure any heating products work properly (heating blankets, space heaters, etc.)
