OHP Applauds Oklahomans For No Fatal Wrecks Amidst Dangerous Road Conditions
The anticipated severe winter weather rolled into Oklahoma during the early morning hours. What started out as rain froze throughout the morning, coating the roads in a dangerously thin layer of ice, causing thousands of wrecks. But Oklahomans may be getting better at navigating the winter roads, based on the praises from Oklahoma's Highway Patrol earlier this morning.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Praises Oklahoma Drivers For No Fatal Accidents Today
Around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, Oklahoma Highway Patrol posted an update on their public Facebook page regarding the accidents and wrecks they had seen thus far.
Despite having aided over nearly 200 crashes and 45 motorists assists, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol staff applauded Oklahomans for keeping it safe despite dangerous road conditions. "Everyone keep up the good work," they wrote, "Continue to take it slow if you have to get out in this."
Oklahoma Has Already Seen Numerous Fatal Accidents This Winter
Unfortunately, fatal wrecks during the winter months in Oklahoma are not unheard of. In 2025 alone, Oklahoma has already seen numerous fatal accidents caused by slippery roads and drivers traveling too fast and inadverdently losing control of the vehicle.
Other frequent causes of fatal accidents on the roads in Oklahoma during the winter months are:
- Low visibility
- Drivers overcorrecting
- Quick and unexpected changes in road conditions
As the temperatures drop throughout the day, it's important for Oklahomans behind the wheel to pay close attention to conditions and avoid being on the road as much as possible. Just because OHP hasn't worked any fatal accidents as of this post doesn't mean they couldn't happen.
Oklahomans Expecting More Incoming Winter Weather
Luckily, the precipitation causing much of the issues on the road this morning moved off and now Oklahomans should only have to worry about bundling up for the cold temperatures overnight.
