Major True Story Film Set To Be Filmed in Southwest Oklahoma This June
Places like Tulsa and Oklahoma City have frequently been featured in films before. But now, southwest Oklahoma will have their chance to shine in a major film highlighting one particular local business and their involvement with something we all love around here: beef.
Founder and owner of Redbone Indian Tacos, Kelly Young, reached out to us to share the news of the newest opportunity she and her Redbone family have had come knocking on their door. Recently, representatives from the Oklahoma Beef Council saw Young's persistance and hard work come to life with the opening of her brick-and-mortar.
Young uses beef in her recipes and the Beef Council has been looking for opportunities to "bring stories to life," according to Heather Buckmaster, Executive Director for the Oklahoma Beef Council. Her comment has been edited for clarification.
"I love [her] story from using [her] grandmother’s recipes to starting as a fundraiser, growing into a successful food truck and now a brick and mortar restaurant."
Filming set to start mid June and the community is invited to join in.
Starting Thursday, June 19, the Beef Council's national office will be sending out their film crew to begin highlighting Young and Redbone Indian Tacos at their Lawton drive-thru location. They'll be filming until June 21, where they'll wrap up at Hitchin' Post Park in Medicine Park, Oklahoma. According to Young, this is a very big deal for the area.
"I wasn't in tune with how big this was until now," she said. "They're bringing in the big lights, cameras, all of it. More than likely, we'll have to get permits and stuff from the city while they're here."
One of the most important parts of the film, though, is the community involvement. Young would like to invite the southwest Oklahoma community to participate simply by being present during the filming process. Other organizations have stepped up to be there, such as Native American singers and dancers from the Comanche Nation.
For those who would like to be in the film, your best bet is to join the crowds of Medicine Park on Saturday, June 21 when the crew is filming in Hitchin' Post Park.
Who is the Oklahoma Beef Council?
The Oklahoma Beef Council is a non-profit 501(c)(5) organization working for the farming and ranching families of Oklahoma, per their website. Their goal as an organization is to "strengthen beef demand in the domestic and global marketplace."
Their board members and staff from all over the state strive to highlight the importance of cattle and beef in people's lives, including Redbone Indian Tacos. They tackle the mission here in Oklahoma for their national office, Beef, It's What's For Dinner.
They've created successful true story films from around the country in the past and decided that, out of all of the incredible stories across the nation, Young's story was the best fitting for this opportunity. Come be part of the memories and enjoy a little beef this June!
