While things are dry today in Southwest Oklahoma, weather forecasters around the state are warning Oklahomans to plan ahead for another round of severe storms bringing even more flooding rain in the next few days. Folks in southwest Oklahoma are encouraged to prepare ahead of time and to stay off the roads.

Amidst the chaos of the flooding that took over Lawton, Oklahoma this past weekend, the town lost an individual who drove into the flood waters and completely submerged their vehicle. Despite their best attempts, emergency officials were not able to safely get to the submerged vehicle.

The tragic loss serves as a consequential warning to Oklahomans to never underestimate the water's depth and to "turn around and don't drown." As we approach the next few days, forecasters say this could be a dangerous situation for many in the southwest Oklahoma region.

Most weather forecasters are anticipating flash flooding risks starting late this evening.

While looking at some of the data about upcoming storms for the next few days, some weather analysts like Mike Morgan have already started warning parts of Oklahoma that their area could be slammed again with more torrential rain.

While flooding poses a major risk, some weather forecasters are also anticipating other damaging winds, hail and possibly some severe weather that may turn into tornadoes. Chief Meteorologist David Payne explained that things could amp up after 7:00 p.m. tonight, April 28.

Meteorologist Lacey Swope reiterated the fact that the flash flooding is a risk for, not just Monday evening into Tuesday, but all the way until Wednesday, April 28. The major risk for flooding will be in "central and south Oklahoma."

Oklahomans are encouraged to have several ways to receive weather alerts, both with and without power or internet. Another warning is for those who came close to, or suffered damage due to flooding but insurance wouldn't cover the repairs. Remember that most insurance claims do not include flooding, so speak with your insurance agent today before the rain arrives. Prepare for the water beforehand and remember: turn around don't drown!
