Christy Turlington, super model turned philanthropist, wants women to ignore phone calls, avoid social media, not accept presents and be silent on Mother's Day.  Turlington hopes this bold step will raise awareness about the moms who have died during childbirth or pregnancy. But would it work?

It's a good cause.  90% of deaths in childbirth or pregnancy are preventable and Turlington's charitable foundation, Every Mother Counts,  is meant to make us think of what our lives would be like without mom.

But, isn't that exactly the POINT of Mother's Day?  To honor mom while she is here?

Turlington is not alone is the 'No Mother's Day' campaign. She is joined by a number of famous women who support the cause. They all shared their concerns in a PSA!

Motherhood has been celebrated for centuries and the roots of mother's day go back almost as far as recorded human history.  Almost every society and tribe had had some kind of celebration or ceremony to honor mom.  Now, for mom to refuse that honor to bring awareness, seems at the same time pro-active and anti-productive.

How best to remember those women who died while trying to bring life is the focus of this movement, but it might be best-placed somewhere else as living moms get far too little recognition as it is.

So here is my question for you - If your mom decided to participate in a NO Mother's Day protest, would you still feel obligated to buy a present?
