Surprising Theme Songs for Oklahoma’s Largest Cities
According to Oklahoma-demographics.com, the following cities have the largest populations in the state. Since we gave the small towns in Oklahoma theme songs of their own, it seems only fitting for the largest cities in the state to have the same honor.
1. Oklahoma City - "In the Ghetto" by Elvis Presley
As the largest city in the state, Oklahoma City has a lot to offer... and a lot to handle. After hearing this song for the first several years ago, the closest visual to Chicago I've ever had was Oklahoma City and the city still struggles with many of the issues described in the song.
2. Tulsa - "Money, That's What I Want" by Barrett Strong
Known as the "Oil Capital of the World," Tulsa is known for bringing in the "big bucks" with the Golden Driller as their tribute to the profitable oil business in the town.
3. Norman - "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell
We all know it's just a classier version of cowboy country.
4. Broken Arrow - "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray
Broken Arrow is one of those large towns that somehow managed to stay small in its own way. The community still has a close relationship to nature and adventure; no wonder there are so many events and escape opportunities in the corner of Oklahoma.
5. Edmond - "Material Girl" by Madonna
In the beginning of the official music video for this classic, you're presented with two characters: one willing and eager to please and the other with a matter-of-fact attitude and no second guesses of what they want. If you meet anyone from Edmond, you can be sure they know what they want and aren't afraid to make it happen.
6. Lawton - "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees
If you've ever been in Lawton, you know for sure that all anyone is doing is staying alive.
7. Moore - "Tornado" by Little Big Town
Of all of the places in Oklahoma, there isn't one more known than Moore for having a rivalry with Oklahoma's tornados. The Moore community has had its fair share with natural disasters and continues to rebuild and truck on despite the setbacks.
8. Midwest City - "Face-Off" by Tech N9ne ft. The Rock
Dwayne Johnson's iconic words never described the young community in Midwest City better:
"it's about drive, it's about power
we stay hungry, we devour
we put in the work, put in the hours and take what's ours"
Hard work and constant progress describe the people of Midwest City to a "t".
9. Enid - "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys
According to visitenid.org, "Enid is a culturally vibrant city and a true arts destination." The city has remained the center of Oklahoma's historical and economic events and continues to provide a relief from busy life for others in need of a break. So, if you're like the Lonely Boys and you want to know "how far is heaven," just put Enid in your GPS and you'll have your answer.
10. Stillwater - "February 28, 2016" by Koe Wetzel
Any college town could fit this track from his "Noise Complaint" album; if any town is known for throwing parties and celebrating, though, Stillwater is at the top of that list. Northeast Oklahomans are also known for their love red dirt/outlaw country, so Koe Wetzel is right up their alley.
