It seems almost silly to discuss Sunday’s Game of Thrones without pointing toward the inevitable obvious, that the character everyone thought would come back to life … came back to life. Viewers perhaps weren’t expecting the twist quite so soon, but now it seems the erstwhile corpse of Jon Snow may put in more time with Season 6 than any prior year.
More-so than ever, Game of Thrones Season 6 will take us into the Winds of Winter spoiler territory that George R.R. Martin himself has yet to schedule a date for, let alone publish. Already, the HBO drama has taken a few dark turns not yet found in Martin’s literary work, though the author admits a major Season 5 sequence will in fact unfold in one of the upcoming books.
Game of Thrones has taken the spoiler warnings against Season 6 far more seriously than guest star Ian McShane, who gladly confirms his appearance involves the return of a fan-favorite character. Game of Thrones didn’t drop too many spoilers of George R.R. Martin’s Winds of Winter by the first trailer, but the author himself has acknowledged the likelihood of some readers learning ahead of others. Considering Netflix has pushed it to the point of debuting near of a new season or series every week, the premium providers of old seem almost deprived of new content. Jon Snow is not dead. At least, he won’t technically stay that way. You know it, we know it, and Game of Thrones can withhold all the Season 6 screeners they like - we know there’s more story to tell. Poor Kit Harington has had to duck the question for months, but a new interview sees the erstwhile Jon Snow at least admit he’s shot scenes … with one small caveat.
Whenever Game of Thrones finally gets around to a full Season 6 trailer, fans will undoubtedly agonize over the continued secrecy of Jon Snow’s fate, and HBO isn’t likely to oblige until at least April 24. In the meantime, have a bunch of posters of everyone’s faces, dead or alive! They seem to be enjoying themselves.
