Our favorite rock stars tend to make the rock 'n' roll lifestyle look like one big party, but the best musicians never lose sight of their art. Take Van Halen, for example: in spite of what it might have seemed like from the outside, former bassist Michael Anthony says the band's glory years were never as wild and crazy as they appeared.

For Patty Smyth, the improbable opportunity to join Van Halen as David Lee Roth's replacement in the mid-'80s would have come at too high of a cost.

David Lee Roth recently let slip that Van Halen is working on a follow-up to 2012's 'A Different Kind of Truth,' and although he cautioned fans they'd have to wait awhile, it sounds like the band is making real progress.

Van Halen's much-anticipated 2012 tour with original singer David Lee Roth didn't exactly go off as planned, with a ton of dates eventually being scrapped. But that didn't stop them from making an animated appearance on last night's episode of 'South Park.'
