Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

Now's the time to hits the trails and go for a hike out at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Late spring, early summer is the perfect time to get off the concrete and into the great outdoors.

This unusual forest in S.W. Oklahoma is one of the most haunted and terrifying places in the Sooner State. The creepy tales of this place are legendary and the stories just keep getting scarier and scarier. BEWARE, hike the trails of this frightening forest at your own risk!

Now that we're finally starting to cool off some, it's the perfect time to hit the trails and do some hiking in the Wichita Mountains. Maybe even go camping and make a weekend getaway or staycation out of it. If you're looking for some fall family fun that doesn't cost much you can't beat it!

Due to the extreme heat and the recent unfortunate death of a hiker, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has an emergency closure order and new time restrictions on hiking and trail walking.

Portions of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge are currently closed to the public due to significant impacts from the recent tornado and flooding that occurred in this area.

For the next four Saturdays (March 8, 15, 22 and 29) the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge will host tours of historical sites.  Most of the tour will be by bus, but you will have a chance to walk around at a few stops.
