My Grandson Lucas is a Cub Scout.  He's enjoyed so many things that are involved with scouting, especially camping.  But one thing that Lucas really loves is honoring Veterans.

Each year, He and his fellow scouts place flags on Veteran's graves on Memorial Day.  This is a two-day process; they place the flags on Memorial Day Eve, and go back and pick them all up on Memorial Day Evening.

Learning to honor our Veterans is one thing that I love about Scouting.  And I love my Lucas's heart.

Wreaths Across America, December 17, 2022

Last Year, in December, Lucas's troop went to Highland Cemetery to lay wreaths on the graves of Veterans. The Mayor came, and the Scouts were there, but because no one sponsored wreaths, there were none to place.  The boys were so disappointed and made the pledge that this year they would work very hard to get sponsorships for wreaths for the nearly 1400 Veterans buried at Highland Cemetery.

Today, Lucas came on our Morning Show with Critter and me and made a plea for listeners to help this cause.  Sponsorship opportunities are pretty reasonable.  $15 for one wreath, $60 for 4, and $150 will buy 10 wreaths.  Here is the form.  You can right-click and save the form, or you can scan the QR Code in the corner to donate.  You can also order wreaths online!

Wreaths Across America will deliver wreaths directly to the Cemetery and will be placed during Wreaths Across America, on December 17, 2022. Boy Scout Troop 4100, Girl Scout Troop 9100, and Cub Scout Troop 4111 will be on hand to lay wreaths on the graves of American Veterans that day.

We also have sponsorship forms here at Townsquare Media offices, 626 SW D Ave in Downtown Lawton.  You can stop by and pick one up and mail it with a check to the address that is listed on the form.  The deadline for all of these is November 26, 2022, so that wreaths can be ordered and delivered in time for the Scouts to place them.

Living in the Lawton/Fort Sill community, we all know Veterans.  My dad is buried at Highland Cemetery, and last year, he had no wreath to honor him.  My husband and I went to get one and Lucas placed it on his grave to honor not only his Great Grandpa but also a soldier that served this great nation.
