Another Scam is Being Reported in Lawton!
Well it certainly didn't take long, no time at all in fact, for another scam to start making the rounds here in town. It seems like every time a scam is identified and finally stamped out, another one is quick to replace it. There's no shortage of people looking to steal your money and identity. You have to be on the look out and on guard for potential scams and scammers at all times these days. Otherwise you'll end up broke or have your credit and reputation destroyed. Well, we have yet another scam that's been reported in Lawton, Fort Sill.
The latest scam we're facing is a phone scam for banking and personal information. The scammers are calling random numbers and pose as a City of Lawton employee calling you about taking a quick survey. Then they start asking questions and wanting details on your bank accounts and other personal information like birth date, Social Security number etc. Whatever you do, DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. This isn't the City of Lawton calling you and there is no official phone survey that the city is conducting. Most, if not all of the surveys that the City performs are done online or mail, not by phone. If the City of Lawton did do a phone survey they wouldn't be asking you for banking and personal information.
We've see more than our fair share off scams lately, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Just recently we had the "Grandparent" scam return to Lawton. We also had the "Jury Duty or Failure to Appear" scam a while back and we had the "COVID-19 Testing and Tracing" scam as well. So be careful and always verify who you're speaking with before you give any banking and personal information out.
