Old Family Diner in Elgin, Oklahoma Reopened As New Breakfast Diner
The old family diner in Elgin, Oklahoma has reopened as the new breakfast and brunch place called the Calle Ocha cafe. The owners of some of the most popular spots in southwestern Oklahoma decided to renovate the old Trivet's diner and bring back breakfast and lunch foods with a tasteful twist.
Elgin, Oklahoma has been constantly growing for years and more and more businesses have been flocking to the town. And in a town with three mexican restaurants practically right next door to one another, and only a handful of drive-thru breakfast shops, the new owners of Calle Ocha wanted to give the Elgin community something unique and a restaurant they really needed.
A personal visit & personal review of the Calle Ocha experience
I went to visit the breakfast and brunch cafe, myself, on their second day open and I can absolutely say that they'll be one of the biggest hits in Elgin.
Their menu includes some breakfast classics like omelettes and biscuits and gravy. But you'll have several options for some authentic mexican breakfast foods, as well.
Instead of venturing far from my comfort zone, I stuck to the good ol' fashioned blueberry waffle with a side of scrambled eggs; something you may notice that isn't on the menu. One of the benefits of the breakfast food place in Elgin, as co-owner Dina Gracia, told me was that that menus are generally very customizable.
Although the owners had a different name in mind, they've grown to like the new one.
I sat and chatted with Gracia as she told me about their vision for Calle Ocha, which was actually supposed to be Calle Ocho, meaning "eighth street." Although there was a misprint in the text, the owners decided to just "roll with the punches" and embrace the name.
Gracia and her husband are owners of the Junction in Lawton, Oklahoma. They partnered with Roberto, owner of the Tu Familia restaurants in Medicine Park and Lawton, to create Calle Ocha. Gracia told me that the best way to describe the new cafe is as a combination of all of their stores together.
The perfect spot to bring back breakfast to Elgin, Oklahoma.
Although her husband is familiar with the breakfast scene, Gracia is cutting her teeth in this industry, but she says that Elgin has helped make her experience all the better. "The town is so welcoming and everyone here has really supported us," she said. I anticipate that more than Elgin's folks will be coming to Calle Ocha; their food is absolutely delicious and the atmosphere is one you can't find nearly anywhere else.
Calle Ocha is open Tuesday through Sunday. Doors open as early as 6 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. the rest of the weekend. For more information and menu items, click here.
