Once again this week, the voice of the MacArthur Highlanders, Eric Sharum will be hosting an hour long Coaches Show tonight from 6-7p at El Chico in the Central Mall. This week the Highlanders, who were undefeated at 4-0 and 1-0 in district, played one of the most thrilling high school football games seen in recent years. When it was all said and done, narrowly escaped with another thrilling 2 point win on the road.

The Macarthur Highlanders have been hitting on all cylinders to start the first part of the season going undefeated and 3-0 in their non district portion of the season with great wins over Clinton, Lawton high and Eisenhower.

The MacArthur Highlanders were certainly riding high after coming off their biggest and impressive win of the season last week; with a 2 point victory over their city rival the Lawton High Wolverines.

It was a game hyped up all week from media outlets throughout the state. Some even said it was to be the second best game in the state.  This game sure lived up to its billing. It was big brother against little brother (6-A versus 5-A) inner-city rivals bragging rights for a year...It was also a City Championship on the line. After a month of very hot temperatures the season opener was everything but unusual as a cool front from the north brought in not only cooler temperatures but also a steady shower to the "tornado bowl in Clinton for the start of the game.

The sun started to sink beyond the clouds and set just west of Cameron Stadium on that hot August evening. The MacArthur Highlanders had just finished their first scrimmage against Bishop McGinnis, I couldn't help but feel that the special time of the year has finally arrived in Southwest Oklahoma - MAC FOOTBALL!
