This week the Highlanders, who were undefeated at 4-0 and 1-0 in district, played one of the most thrilling high school football games seen in recent years. When it was all said and done, narrowly escaped with another thrilling 2 point win on the road.

Their second of the season, but this time at Hightower Memorial stadium in Altus. The saying goes that good teams find a way to win but the question was HOW? How did the boys from up on the Hill do it?
With the all the drama that unfolded that night seemingly at every turn, all one could say is that fate had to be working on the side of the Highlanders, in spite of not really capitalizing on 5 Altus turnovers that Big Mac recovered.
A blocked field goal attempt that was returned for a touchdown only to be called back by an illegal block in the back call, to escape with victory in spite of a late recovered on-side kick to even a huge late in the 4th quarter kick return to the Mac's 13 to set up a potential tie ball game touchdown only to get a Big Mac stop at the one denying the two point conversion. Most of that coming in the second half.
The night started out with high expectations coming from both sides as the Highlanders coming to town undefeated and Altus, who were very excited on their own with a 3-1 record and a lot of hometown enthusiasm coming from this traditional football town.
The hometown crowd were all decked out in pink that night to commemorate breast cancer awareness month along with hosting a big pregame tailgate event that crammed the parking lot full of fans, smiles, hamburgers and a big win on their mind.
The game started out with both teams marching down the field at will on each other and a 7-7 contest to a eventually 14-13 Altus half time lead. MacArthur quickly regained the lead to open the second half but Altus answered points with points and it was a 28-20 contest with Mac with the lead with 3:54 left in the 3rd.
The lights finally went out for the bulldogs when Altus had the ball on the Mac's 43 with just 14 seconds left they were out of time outs and it forced the Bulldogs to do something they don't want to do throw the ball, which they had only done 3 times all night it was a Hail Mary pass to the only find Mac's secondary and Walter Neil intercept the pass and run out the clock and the Altus potential upset. Instead the Highlanders escape the narrow victory to go 5-0 and 2-0 in the district.
