As almost everyone knows, I don't bake.  It's not that I can't cook, it's just I don't like to bake. I posted a recipe for an easy last minute Easter Cake.  It looked easy enough to make so I decided to try to bake it last night.  Here are the results:

Easter is such a fun holiday.  It is the beginning of spring and everything is new and bright and fun.  I was checking out the Taste of Home website and found a recipe for a really cute Easter cake made with Peeps.  The best part  - it's made with a box cake mix.

We are just 10 days away from our 4th Annual Taste of Home Cooking School and 20 days away from Easter. Here is a fun recipe from the Taste of Home website that you could make for your family as an Easter treat.

I am determined that when I release my stepson on the world he will know how to do his own laundry, clean his own bathroom, mow his own yard and cook his own food without using a microwave.  To further this mission, Dillon (currently 12) is invited to cook dinner for the family about once a month.  He picks the meal, finds the recipes and is the chef (although sometimes I'll step in as sous chef).

I don’t know what has gotten into me lately. Ever since I got back from visiting with my Mom I’ve spent more time in the kitchen then I have in the last 10 years of marriage. I guess being in the kitchen with my Mom and watching how much she enjoyed cooking and baking made me realize it’s not that bad.

I have never made Beef Stew. I know, you would think, at my age, I would have made this many times.  I have always just bought Dinty Moore in the can. (I just heard a bunch of cooks gasp.) As I said earlier, I checked The Mace Family Cookbook and could not find a recipe so I went searching and found this one on Allrecipes.com. David “helped me” modify it.

I have shared with you in the past that I have a Mace Family cookbook. Whenever I want to cook something new I must refer to the Mace Family Cookbook first (it’s an unwritten rule of being a Mace wife, or so my husband tells me). Believe it or not, I have never made homemade beef stew. I know, don’t judge me. So off to the cookbook I go looking for a recipe for Beef Stew.

These Peanut Butter Cookies are my husband David's favorite. You can use chunky peanut butter if you would like but he prefers the creamy peanut butter. Mom has made these recipes so many times she doesn't need the list anymore!

My Mom and I have been baking fools since I arrived at her home on Monday. We've made Melt in Your Mouth Pumpkin cookies, Peanut Butter Blossom cookies (my favorite) and now Peanut Butter Balls (Buckeyes). These were easy to make but the dipping was interesting. I kept losing them in the chocolate.

This is my Mom's recipe box. All of the recipes in this box are fading and have remnants of flour, sugar and butter on them. I found out today that my Dad built this plain wooden box for my Mom to store her recipes in. This plain wooden box is a treasure chest of favorite foods I remember as a kid. Why is it when your Mom bakes cookies they come out perfect? Her chocolate chip cookies are flat and chewy, mine are puffy and hard. Her peanut blossom cookies are puffy and mine are flat and hard. So I decided that while I was visiting her this week I would MAKE her show me how to bake cookies. Let me tell you that it is a challenge because we are both stubborn and controlling.
