David Cassidy, lead singer on the iconic '70s musical sitcom The Partridge Family, died on Tuesday (November 21), his publicist, Jo-Ann Geffen, shares. He was 67.

The entertainer, who CNN reports had "been admitted to the intensive care unit of a Fort Lauderdale, Florida area hospital," was suffering from critical organ failure prior to his passing.

"David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long," Geffen said. "Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."

Cassidy began playing Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family in 1970, a role which solidified his status as a teen heartthrob in the decade. The show ran for four years and spawned several hit pop songs, including the Billboard No. 1 smash "I Think I Love You."

The singer also launched a solo career including twelve studio albums and a number of compilation albums.

In the 2000s, Cassidy starred alongside '80s pop star Sheena Easton in a Las Vegas show called At the Copa.
