Final Stretch of Construction Through Elgin, Oklahoma
It's been the longest seven months for everyone in Elgin, Oklahoma. Adding the third lane to the main road through the town has been, debatably, one of the most intricate projects that the city and state has thrown at us this year. However, it appears that we may be nearing the last stretch of construction for Highway 277.
Progress on the new road has been moving quickly in the last few weeks. We're seeing less of the "radiator springs" look and more of a nice, paved highway through town.
But, just how much is left to do before things are back to normal?
Construction on Highway 277 started in February of this year.
Originally, construction for this project was supposed to only take three to five months, ideally.
Things slowed down when we had an abnormally wet spring and excessive rain prevented workers from doing their job. It's been plenty dry recently, so the work hasn't slowed down a bit.
People around Elgin have noticed that the work seems to be getting closer and closer to the finish line, so we asked for an update from the Elgin Mayor.
Just a few more weeks left for the last bits of construction in Elgin.
Just like everyone's guessing, things are wrapping up quickly.
"We expect the last layer of asphalt to be laid this week and striping to take place late next week," Mayor of Elgin, JJ Francais, told us.
After that, we expect clean up to start happening and before you know it, Elginites will be enjoying the new third lane and well-built sidewalks lining the roads.
