Meet The Six Scoops of Cuteness Needing Foster Homes: Cupcake, Truffles, Mousse & More
It's hard to see some really young lives already starting so hard. But luckily, these pups have found themselves in some of the best hands in Lawton, Oklahoma.
One of the newest, and debatably one of the most successful, rescues in the southwest Oklahoma is Fishy's Friends Rescue. They specifically aim to save stray animals and place them with volunteer fosters until they're adopted.
This year, Oklahoma has already seen too many animals dumped, accidentally bred and released by their owners. In an effort to hopefully get them new homes, Fishy's Friends is asking for more families to step up and foster one (or more if you want) of their puppies.
“Tiramisu? More Like Tira-me-swoon”
Out of all of the adoptable animals they have at Fishy's Friends, they have more puppies than anything. One of the litters they took on earlier this year was called the "Dessert" litter, which they named each puppy after a dessert.
These puppies were born in May to their mother and raised up by volunteers since they were found. Many of the volunteers say they're all incredibly sweet, curious and friendly with other pets and children.
The difference between Fishy's Friends and other groups in or around Lawton is their focus on saving stray animals. After all, Fishy was the stray that started it all. While other shelters and rescues accept owner surrenders, they specifically take on animals with no home.
But their efforts to save the homeless pet population don't just stop at rescuing. They actively seek out places to put micrchipping stations across Oklahoma. These stations are set up so that anyone who finds a stray has the resources to scan the pup for a microchip themselves and what to do afterwards.
Why don't you see more pet foster homes in Oklahoma?
As a former foster myself, I don't truly understand why there aren't more folks jumping at the idea of taking a pup or kitten in to foster.
I don't think people realize just how much fostering takes the weight off of being a new pet owner. It allows you to enjoy the novelty of having a new companion without having to pay for hefty expenses like spaying/neutering, vaccinations, pet deposits, surgeries, food, etc.
It's not like the rescue stops looking for a forever home for their fosters once they're place, either - especially when it comes to puppies. Because they're so cute, young and impressionable, they aren't usually in a foster home for very long.
Sure, it can be a little tough to see them go if you get attached. But that's also why fosters should consider the foster-to-adopt option for these guys. Or, if you just can't committ, at least you know they're going to someone who will do right by them.
