Netflix’s Fuller House will drag the past kicking and streaming onto your devices as early as this Friday, but it won’t bring the Olsen twins any closer to reprising the role that once made them famous. Now, said fashion moguls have at last spoken out on declining the invitation, owing to bad timing and discomfort.

People caught up with executive producer Bob Boyett to explain the twins’ absence (not for lack of John Stamos attempting to throw any Olsen in the mix), which apparently owed initially to Ashley’s reticence to go before cameras. It’s curious that the quote comes third-hand, though:

Ashley said, ‘I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don’t feel comfortable acting.’ Mary-Kate said, It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.

Of course, the absence is given a meta-wink and an anvil in the upcoming premiere, which sees the family acknowledging “Michelle’s” New York fashion empire (subsequently staring at the camera in disgust), and later prank-calling an offscreen Michelle with her “You got it, dude” catchphrase. Nothing uncomfortable here, folks!

Its Carly Rae Jepsen remix audible below, so reads the official Fuller House synopsis:

In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas), all move in to help take care of D.J.’s three boys — the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson (Michael Champion), neurotic 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr (Messitt Twins).

Guest appearances by John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Lori Loughlin (Becky Katsopolis) and Scott Weinger (Steve Hale).

Fuller House will premiere all Netflix episodes on February 26. In the meantime, bask in the uncomfortable nostalgia below.
