This morning, Oklahomans all around the state were left confused as to why their cold water may be working just fine, but their hot water is trickling or completely frozen. To be fair, single digit temperatures in Oklahoma are not common and some winter weather practices may not be widely known.

One licensed contract plumber posted on the Lawton Grapevine public Facebook Group about numerous calls he's received about the issue. "I've already got six calls from people complaining that their hot water is not working. Its frozen," he said. "Gotta drip/small stream both."

Unfortunately, not everyone in Oklahoma knew about the rule and have been left without the use of hot water. But, there may be a few ways to work around not having running hot water.

Thaw the Lines If You Can Or Work Around Not Having Hot Water

If you still have water running and need to use warm water to bathe or wash items like dishes, you can always heat water in the microwave or stove.

Some folks try to thaw out their pipes by opening cabinets and using a space heater on the pipes. People should be cautious when using space heaters in these areas and ensure you do not damage the pipes.

Unfortunately, because of just how low the temperatures are, there is no gaurantee that residents can get their hot water unfrozen. More than likely, folks will just have to wait.

For future knowledge, Oklahomans should leave both sides trickling. If someone has a single faucet for both the hot and cold water, they should leave the water trickling and turn their faucet handle slightly towards the warm setting.
