I was flicking through TikTok last night and stumbled across a list of every state's "worst" person. I figured it was going to be a play on current politics and be Ryan Walters, but Oklahoma's "worst person" was listed as Cameron Willingham.

As a lover of Oklahoma history, it's a name I hadn't heard before, so it was worth a deep dive.

As it turns out, Cameron Willingham was a deplorable person. He was an abusive husband to his wife, and was convicted of setting the family home in Texas on fire to cover up evidence that he abused his three small daughters... but even his abused wife defended him against those allegations. However, arson was proven in court.

That's a horrible story, but it happened in Texas. No wonder he's not included in Oklahoma history. Typical TikTok, no real effort into research and such. Shame.

If you wanted to know who the worst Oklahoma criminals were, there's a short list of those - but decades after their crimes, most of them are romanticized now as beloved heroes. The Wild West was truly wild.
