What's Coming to the Corner of Sheridan & Erwin in Lawton, OK.

If you've been near the corner of Sheridan Road and Erwin Lane in Lawton, Fort Sill lately you've probably seen all the construction going on. Crews are tearing down the old Wolverton Furniture along with all the other attached buildings from the shopping center that was once there. Heavy equipment is making short work of it and most of the buildings and structures that were a part of the old shopping center are down.

The only thing remaining is the rear wall of the old Wolverton Furniture, the rest is already torn down and being hauled away. I don't know how long they've been working on the project but it's moving along quickly. I passed by there this afternoon to get some pictures and to see if anyone on the site had any idea what's coming to that location. While no one could say for sure, they did have a few short answers to the question.

Pretty soon nothing will be left of the old Wolverton Furniture and the shopping center. The picture above was taken earlier this morning and they were already about to start the demo to bring the last remaining walls down. I spoke to a few people while I was there but no one had any straight answers as to what is going to be built there once the lot is completely cleared. There's a rumor going around that a new car wash is going in there, so I asked. One person I spoke to said "that's what it's looking like" and that he'd heard the same thing.

He didn't confirm it but suggested it was true. So are we getting another car wash in Lawton, Fort Sill? A lot of people are saying that's what it's going to be and it's all over Facebook and everywhere else online. A lot of people aren't happy about it and say we have enough car washes in town. There's even a new one near 38th and Cache Road, and yet another one that going to be built near the corner of 2nd Street and Gore Blvd.

Right now there's no 100% confirmation that it's going to be a car wash, but that's the BIG RUMOR online and elsewhere. I have to say like a lot of other people, "how many more car washes do we really need?" I mean we already have more than a few and there are more being built or rumored to be built in the very near future.

Pretty soon Lawton is going to be nothing but car washes and dispensaries. Don't get me wrong I think any business opening up is a great thing. It just seems like it's the same businesses over and over again. We could really use some variety that's for sure! We'll keep you posted and as soon as we hear anything official about what's going in on the corner of Sheridan Road and Erwin Lane we'll be sure to pass it along ASAP!
