Looks Like a New Car Wash Will be Built in the Empty Lot on N. Sheridan Road in Lawton, OK.
It's been an empty lot for years and years but soon we could be seeing a new car wash at 1503 N. Sheridan Road in Lawton, OK. It's near the corner of Sheridan and Cache Road between China Wok and Sonic Drive-In.
The City's Planning Commission unanimously voted to re-zone the vacant lot to allow Tommy's Express Car Wash to build a new facility there if approved by the City Council. Lawton Constitution broke the news today.
Now that the rezoning has been recommended by the Planning Commission it will go before the Lawton City Council for final approval. More than likely it will be approved and construction will move forward on the new car wash. While I'm glad that the lot will no longer be empty, do we really need another car wash in Lawton?

We already have, in my opinion, an overabundance of car washes. We have every imaginable type from automatic to self-wash and everything in between! You'll find them all over town from one side to the other. It's not like there's a part of town that's suffering from a lack of car washes. How many will be enough?
There are even plans for another car wash to be built on the corner of Gore Blvd. and 2nd Street. It seems all we're getting is car washes and dispensaries! We're quickly becoming known as the car wash and cannabis city of S.W. Oklahoma. You can't throw a rock in this town without hitting a car wash or marijuana dispensary.
Don't get me wrong I appreciate any company or business that opens in Lawton providing more options, competition, employment opportunities, and tax revenue, but damn could we get a little variety? Here's an idea, why not combine what seems to be the 2 most popular businesses we have in Lawton, Fort Sill and open up a car wash with a dispensary together? We could call it "Buds & Suds" or how about "Wash & Weed?"
