Sheldon Richardson of the New York Jets has been charged by the St Charles (Missouri) County Sheriffs Department with resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in St. Charles County, Missouri on July 14.

The 24-year-old defensive lineman was reportedly involved in street drag racing in his 2014 Bentley Silver Spur W12, and was clocked by authorities with speeds reaching as high as 143 miles per hour according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. When Sheriffs officers attempted approach Richardson's vehicle, the former 1st round draft pick fled the scene, leading police on chases that reached upwards of 120 miles per hour on surface streets and through residential areas. When Richardson realized he was not going to be able to outrun law enforcement, he parked the car in a driveway and attempted to avoid police by shutting the vehicle down. It didn't work.

Richardson, who recently received a 4-game suspension from the NFL for a marijuana related failure of a league drug test, reportedly reached down to the floor, between his feet. After he had been removed from the vehicle, law enforcement not only noticed the strong smell of marijuana permeating from the car, they also realized that there were two other adults in the car. And a semi-automatic handgun under the drivers seat.

And the 12-year child in the back seat.

So, in order to save himself from a ticket for drag racing, and apparently either a driving while under the influence or a possessions charge, Richardson thought it was a much better idea to place not only his own life in grave danger, but also the lives of his friends, the lives of law enforcement officers who attempted to apprehend him, and the life of a 12-year old kid!!! What a self centered, arrogant, self-important piece of humanity.

Regardless of his stupidly selfish actions, Mr. Richardson is a young, elite athlete who possesses the rare talent of being able to tackle other elite athletes at a incredible rate and his life threatening actions will be forgiven. Whether its the Jets or another team in the league that has forgiven players who have beat their wives and girlfriends, beating their children, selling large quantities of illegal drugs or even fighting and killing innocent animals, will welcome Richardson back with open arms. All will be forgiven and forgotten.

Including the lives of his friends that were put in immediate danger while riding in the speeding Bentley, let alone if police had seen the gun that Richardson may or may not have been reaching for.

Or the law enforcement officers that were forced to give chase.

Or innocent bystanders who may have done nothing, other than be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Or the twelve year old child that was in the backseat.
