The dog park/bar venue in Oklahoma City, Bar K, recently closed their doors permanently without any warning. Reports say that their other two locations in Kansas City and St. Louis are all permanently closed as well. The Oklahoma City location has already deleted their social media.

According to a message sent to their members, the owners contributed the abrupt closure to financial issues. The issues unfortunutely led to the inability for the owners to issue refunds for those who purchased memberships, but the owners say that they'll be doing their best to make up for the loss.

Last year, the owners of the business faced a lawsuit from the landlord of the St. Louis location due to unpaid rent equaling nearly $300,000. The landlord, Green Street, later dismissed the lawsuit in September 2024, according to ksdk.com.

Despite the fact that the lease agreement for the Bark K location was supposed to be for 15 years, the locations closed only after two.

The owners message to members says "there isn’t one single cause, but rather a variety of challenges."

According to a statement released from ksdk.com, a previous member received this message from Bar K:

"Dear Bar K Member:

We are writing to share the heartbreaking news that Bar K will be closing permanently, effective immediately. We are so grateful that you have trusted us to create this joyful space where our community has been able to celebrate and share our special connection with our best friends.

We know Bar K has become a beloved destination for you and your pups. We understand many of you will be upset and disappointed by this result and want to understand the reasons. As is often the case, there isn’t one single cause, but rather a variety of challenges that ultimately proved too difficult for our start-up business to overcome. Among many other factors, we have faced the same severe economic challenges as the rest of the hospitality industry, including inflationary costs and expenses, an extremely difficult labor market, and sharply reduced consumer spending.

Please know that a great many people worked incredibly hard and took enormous risks to create Bar K and keep our doors open as long as possible. We know that many of you have invested in an annual membership to Bar K. While we regrettably do not have the resources to issue refunds, we will be working hard to reach out to pet businesses and other partners in our community to put together a package of benefits to return as much value to you as possible. We will be in touch with more information.

In the meantime, please hug your dogs for us – we know that you will continue to give them all your love and support so they can continue to live their very best lives. We will miss them terribly."
