How often do you see honey bee farms in Oklahoma? Now that I think about, I don't think I've seen a single one. But we all know there are some folks out there who are brave enough and kind enough to save the bees, I'm just not sure where to find them.

But it looks like there could be a good place to start in Slaughterville, Oklahoma. Their local Farmers Market has decided to host their very first Honey Bee Festival on Saturday, August 16.

It takes a unique type of person to handle bees, but it's so important. Most of us are well aware by now just how vital these little things are.

Honey bees are so important to Oklahoma, they were named our state insect.

Now when we say a Honey Bee festival, don't think of bees flying around all willy-nilly. They'll have bee keeping exhibits and live demonstrations with the bumblebees. But there will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about bees in Oklahoma and why they're so important.

But, if being close to the bees is just a little too close for comfort, then they'll have plenty of other ways to get involved and still enjoy a bit of bee!

The Honey Bee Festival is still a festival! Lots to do and see outside of the bees.

They'll have vendors, a dunk tank, carnival games, dirty beverages for the adults and even a chance for guests to come and pick their own blue berries.

This seven hour festival is being held at Easom Farms, located at 8656 Banner Road in Slaughterville, Oklahoma. The fun begins at 12 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. that evening.
