Oklahoma has ranked in the top 20 for the most firearms purchased in 2020. An historic number of firearms were bought and sold last year, more so than any other year in history. We're talking about roughly 21 million plus firearms according to the totals provided by the most recent FBI data and NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System). The next highest year for gun sales was set back in 2016 at close to 16 million. The spike was caused primarily due to the possibility of further gun control efforts by the Federal Government including an assault weapons ban, high capacity magazine ban and gun registration.

So why are so many people buys guns right now and why was 2020 the literal "Year of the Gun?" Last year's firearms sales were fueled by several different factors like the COVID-19 pandemic, all the civil unrest, riots and lawlessness we were seeing around the country and finally like 2016 the possibility of facing more gun control and bans. Add that all up and that's way so many people are purchasing firearms at an historic rate and level. It's pretty evenly split too between new gun owners and existing gun owners.

Last year in Oklahoma alone over 435,000 guns were purchased. It doesn't look like it's going to slow down anytime soon either as more and more anti-gun measures and legislation is being introduced at both State and Federal levels. This has always driven sales as people are concerned that the firearms and accessories they want won't be available or legal to purchase at a later date.

The more they talk of gun control the more guns, ammo and accessories are purchased. This alone should tell legislators what most American think of their gun control agenda and plans. If the gun control idea was so popular why are we seeing the sales numbers were seeing? So did you purchase a firearm in 2020? Are you a part of the 21 plus million people who did? Take the poll and let us know.
