Sought After Side Jobs in Oklahoma That Help Bring In The Extra Buck
Oklahoma, luckily, has had a mild winter, like usual. Unlike places in the north that hire folks to help shovel snow or prep sidewalks for intense winter weather, we don't need any of those jobs here.
However, because Oklahomans aren't accustomed to winter weather, there are specific side jobs that are very important and sought after when it does start to get cold. Even if we don't see snow that sticks this year, these side jobs can still be found in just about any part of the state.
When you try to advertise your services, don't be afraid to use every avenue. Post physical flyers, make a social media post on Facebook and share it to groups, and even try Craigslist. Always include your location and how far you're willing to travel, since some folks from over an hour away might be interested. Here are some side work ideas.
Freelance Firewood Sellers
Of course, you should only cut down the wood on your own property, as it is illegal to cut trees down in Oklahoma for commercial purposes on public property without a permit, according to most city ordinances.

Although we're seeing mild temperatures now, smart Oklahomans are stocking up on their firewood while it's cheap and easy to find. Because we all know the cold season is really between January and February each winter.
Ranch Hands/Farm Hands/Livestock Caretakers
Oklahoma is full of farmers raising all sorts of livestock, especially cattle. While they typically care for their own animals, many need help caring for animals while they are away for the holidays. Since these animals are usually their livelihood, expect the owners to have strict instructions for care.

Never cross a cowboy and always do the best work you can, not just for yourself, but for the animals, as well. Luckily, no one's breaking ice or tossing hay in below-freezing temperatures right now, so the job shouldn't be as difficult as it can be.

How do you find farmers in need? Check the local co-op or feed store and leave your information on a flyer or card. Talk to local veterinarians who care for cattle, as they usually have close relationships with local ranchers.
Pet Sitters
Whereas ranch hands will likely have to handle large animals like cattle and horses, pet sitters have a different clientele. Usually, pet owners will want you to watch their animals at their home so that they are more comfortable. You will also find more work if you're willing to stay with the pet, versus just dropping in for visits.

Some websites, like Rover, can be helpful to find work, but they do take a percentage of your pay. If you watch Facebook groups closely, you can be one of the first to respond to take care of any animals that may need attention during the holiday season.
Christmas Lights Remover
While some of us are pulling the Gretchen Wilson and might leave them on all year long, some folks will start to remove their Christmas lights soon after the holiday season.
While you might not be able to charge a lot for this work, you could find plenty of clients in neighborhoods who've decked their homes out for Christmas. After all, after the new year, we're all having to work even harder and more hours to catch up after missing for the holidays.
