The Lawton Animal Welfare is calling on the community to help provide supplies for an astonishing amount of puppies who were recently found dumped in a dumpster. Superintendent Cliff Blasengame released a statement urging folks to help in any way they can and remind those with pets to spay and neuter.

The statement posted on the public Facebook page told community members that the shelter needed wet food and powdered milk for 11 puppies tragically found in a dumpster last night, Thursday, Feb. 6. "These puppies are in desperate need of nourishment to ensure their survival and health," Blasengame wrote. "They are too young to eat dry food."

When faced with feeding litters this young, they prefer the brands KMR for powdered milk for kittens and Pet Ag for puppies.

Lawton Animal Welfare staff are asking for donations to be dropped off directly at the animal shelter, located at 2104 SW 6th Street in Lawton, Oklahoma. They also have an amazon wishlist for further needs of the other animals in the shelter.

Blasengame also included a reminder to Lawton's pet owners to spay and neuter their animals. "Preventing unwanted litters through responsible pet ownership," he said, "can significantly reduce the number of animals left in dire situations such as these puppies and many others we intake here at our facility."

He also emphasized that, regardless of how dire a situation may be for someone with an unexpected litter, they can always reach out to the Lawton Animal Welfare or local animal care groups for assistance and resources.

Oklahoma's Law & Punishing Those Responsible For Dumping The Litter

Although we do not know who dumped the litter as of now, it's important for Oklahomans to understand the consequences of their actions for doing something so cruel to animals this young.

Oklahoma's law states that any person convicted of abandoning an animal could face a fine anywhere from $100 to $500, up to a year in county jail, or both. Authorities may also have the animal "humanely destroyed," depending on the circumstances.

Some may argue that these repercussions should be not only enforced, increased, as a means to combat the overpopulation crisis that Oklahoma is currently under.
