Oklahoma Just Gained A Scheels Store & Now Here Comes Another
In a list of the most boring places in the country, it's sad to say that Oklahoma had not one but two top spots on the map. According to Newsweek, Oklahoma City was the 7th most boring city in the country, followed by Tulsa at number 15. Jokes on them, though, it's about to get a whole lot more wild in the sooner state.
Last year, the first employee-owned Scheels store in Oklahoma opened their doors in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As of today, it is confirmed that Oklahoma will see a second Scheels up and running by the spring of 2028. The new Scheels location will be opened in Oklahoma City.
Scheels is not just a shopping center - it has it's own entertainment section that people can come to enjoy without even having to buy anything. Goodbye Bass Pro, hello Scheels.
"The store is designed to be a one-of-a-kind destination worth exploring."
Oklahoma City is not just the largest city in the state, but it's an important stop for anyone who travels through the state. That's why they're building the new Scheels store right between Kilpatrick Turnpike and NW 150th on the west side of Highway 74/Portland Avenue.
The enormous build is going to take a TON of space - enough to fit a Ferris Wheel. According to the Scheels press release, the Oklahoma City location will be more than 300,000 square foot.

But just in case you've never heard of Scheels before, there's a very good reason they need to make these stores so big. Scheels is unique for several reasons. One of the most important is that it is an employee-owned business, meaning that the workers there own a significant part of the shares in the company. So the people who are working there truly believe in their work and want to see the company thrive.
Secondly, Scheels doesn't just provide incredible sports gear, apparel and equipment. Just take a look at the Tulsa location. They not only have sports goods like Dicks and Academy, but they have entertainment areas for the family to visit.
The Oklahoma City store will look similar to Tulsa's, as described in the press release.
"From signature attractions like the Ferris Wheel and candy shop, to the 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium filled with over 600 fish, customers will enjoy entertainment for all ages. The store will also feature a wildlife mountain, interactive arcade games and a restaurant," they said.
