Meet Mykal Marie. A professional Tulsa gamer and activist speaking out on some deep plains-states traditions.

She's speaking out on the 'cruelty' of of treatment, and the necessity of our native rattlesnakes to keep other critter populations in check. Having spent my youth working on various farms, and having seen what a few mice can do to a grain bin, I might tend to agree with the needs for these predators for rodent control...

But I suspect this YouTube celebrity has never walked to the barn in the wee hours of the morning. Or ran a weed eater down a country fence line. She's probably never seen, first hand, what a bite from a rattlesnake can do to an appendage.

I'm not trying to paint rattlesnakes in a bad light, they're truly beautiful creatures that deserve their place in this world... I just wouldn't think of them as our mystical friends either.

Maybe, in true self awareness style, you should attend one of these festivals this year and make up your mind which side of the fence you want to stand on. There are several in, and around the state.

Apache Rattlesnake Festival

Waurika Rattlesnake Hunt

Waynoka Rattlesnake Round-Up

Okeene Rattlesnake Round-Up

Mangun Rattlesnake Derby
