We’ve mostly stayed away from any ‘Two and a Half Men’ hubbub since Charlie Sheen’s crazy days settled down, and Angus T. Jones similarly talked himself out of a job, but with the CBS comedy’s series finale firmly set for February 19, we’re at least curious if Charlie Sheen can negotiate a return appearance. Judging by Ashton Kutcher’s coy performance in a recent ‘Ellen’ interview, that looks to be the case.

Now that 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff 'How I Met Your Dad' seems to have fallen through, the CBS lineup looks a little bereft of anything we might normally follow. And now with CBS' acquisition of Thursday Night Football, the full fall 2014 schedule looks a little jumbled with 'The Big Bang Theory' filling in for 'HIMYM' Mondays, while 'Elementary' and others move to October to accommodate football.

Whereas CBS' decision to not move forward with 'HIMYM' spinoff 'How I Met Your Dad' proved pretty surprising, the fate of 'Two and a Half Men' was long overdue. The Ashton Kutcher comedy will indeed return for season 12 this fall, though the network finally confirmed that one of Chuck Lorre's flagship vehicles will come to a merciful end with a series finale thereafter.

Year after year, this becomes almost painfully unsurprising. Following an impressive three-season renewal for CBS comedy juggernaut 'The Big Bang Theory,' the network granted an additional 18 renewals to its drama and comedy lineup for 2014-15, including (but not limited to) 'Two and a Half Men,' '2 Broke Girls,' 'Elementary,' 'NCIS' and 'The Good Wife.' Normally we'd consider CBS' long-running 'Two and a Half Men' out of our wheelhouse, particularly given how unrecognizable the series has become from its original inception, but the latest casting coup is too retro to ignore.
