The past couple of months has been incredibly busy for all of our volunteer fire departments around Comanche County, OK. and we certainly owe them a BIG THANK YOU for all they've done and continue to do for us. As dry as it is we're seeing a lot of fires break out throughout the county and in rural communities.

Over the past several weeks we've seen fires in Northeast Comanche County and out east of town near KSWO Channel 7. Those are just a few that have happened recently. Volunteer fire departments from all over Comanche Co. have come together to battle the flames and help keep people, livestock, and homes safe.

These men and women work tirelessly and a lot of times without any recognition whatsoever for everything they do. They place themselves in danger and risk all to help others and do so voluntarily. In my honest opinion, that's what makes a real hero and they more than deserve that title, our thanks, and appreciation.

Right now Comanche County isn't in an official burn ban, but several other counties are. Check with Oklahoma Forest Services for the complete listings. It wouldn't surprise me if Comanche Co. is added to the list, especially if things don't improve. Right now all chances of rain have been removed from the immediate forecast so conditions don't look too promising as far as getting some much-needed rain anytime soon.

Be very careful and avoid any type of outdoor fires if at all possible until things improve. You'll also want to check the Oklahoma Forest Sevices site often for updates on burn bans and related weather conditions that cause the potential for high fire danger. Also with it being New Years' fireworks would be a really bad idea. You don't want to ring in the new year by burning down your property or home, or someone else's.
