Wild Wind Damage Across Oklahoma Tossing Trampolines & More
Earlier this week, Oklahoma experienced dangerously strong winds. We aren't just talking tumbleweed tossing speeds, but strong enough to completely rotate semi trucks in the middle of the highway among so many other things. Bear in mind, these are just the winds after the tornadoes that we experienced on Monday, March 3.
Windiest months of the year have hit Oklahoma.
March and April are Oklahoma's windiest months of the year and we're feeling the brunt of these wind speeds currently. As of Wednesday, March 5, Mesonet recorded high winds up to 54mph around the state.
These winds have been causing numerous power outages throughout Oklahoma and Texas, but that's not the only damage we've been seeing.
If you're ever in Oklahoma, you'll hear us often talk about "trampoline wind" and the picture below explains the saying best.
The wind wasn't just tossing trampoline's either. Speeds were so high that entire playgrounds were overturned in Elgin, Oklahoma. Now, families are making sure to tie their things down when high winds are forewarned in the forecast.
Other Oklahomans may not have seen damage, but they did get a firsthand view at the wind's impact on the Lake Lawtonka Dam in Medicine Park. Videos captured the wind tossing gallons of water over the side of the dam.
Another family near Choctaw, Oklahoma was grateful for the wind and it's help bringing down an old tree that needed to go anyway. Luckily, when it fell, it didn't do any damage to their home or property. In some ways, the high winds were actually a good thing.
These are only a few occasions that we've spotted wind damage or effects around Oklahoma. How hard did the wind hit you? Send us your photos now through the app and we'll share!
